Amber Race is the first swimrun event in Latvia which took place on 13.08.2016 in coastal town Salacgrīva. Swimrun is a fun endurance race, which combines both trail running and open water swimming. Together with your teammate you will share marked trail, joint experience, jokes and adventure. Swimrun is all about emotions! Salacgrīva is one of the greenest areas in Latvia. You will have opportunity to feel it by passing sand dunes, trails, swimming in Riga Bay and Salaca River.
This year Amber Race offers 3 distances – long distance is meant for rather experienced participants, while shortened for those enjoying nature. Meanwhile super sprint who wants to get to know swimrun sport. Alike long and short distances, where teammates participate together super sprint is individual competition available for youngsters as well, as minimal age requirement is 16 years. However any experienced athlete is welcome to join and make short or super sprint distance as speed workout for him/herself. It will be interesting to everyone! For more details visit course.
Until recently Latvian adventurists were unfamiliar with swimrun. According to the legend “swimrun is the sport that was born from a drunken BET”. In 2006 Michael Lemmel and Mats Skott decided to offer their crazy challenge to wider audience. In the first couple of years a little more than 10 teams crossed start line. With growing popularity race became recognized worldwide. Original race “O till O” is the SWIMRUN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP and has been ranked by CNN as one of the toughest endurance races in the world.
Currently more than 100 races are available for swimrun enthusiasts.
